Biking with Dogs

When I first adopted Barbie, her foster mum said she was happy to trot along with a bike. I have been too chicken to try it - until today.

Barbie is a great biking companion, in the main predictable and well mannered. She did put on her turbo boosters when we first took off, but I told her 'whoooooah' and she slowed down. She did resist the pressure from the lead a little, pulling outward, which affected my balance a bit.

Anyway, she seemed to enjoy it, so I think I might invest in a 'Springer' - especially if I can find one at a reasonable price!

This is something I'd like to try, particularly with Frankie. But I wouldn't unless I had a springer type attachment so I'll be interested to see how you like it when you get and use one:)
If you get a Springer, I definitely want to see videos! I am way too chicken to ride my bike w with any of our dogs!

hahah well they seem to cost about $90. There's a home made version on instructables.com... but I need to find a threaded piece of steel plumbing pipe, they don't seem to sell them at Bunnings :/
I tried Swan on the bike, I didn't have to pedal...

hahaha at least you know you are not pushing the dog too hard when the dog is happy to pull you along! Barbie certainly gave me a bit of a boost.... she was not lagging behind. She was excited that I could finally keep up with her.
Sounds great! Wish someone could get an action shot of the 2 of you as you're riding by...bet Barbie would look fantastic in full motion next to you!

haha she won't be at top speed - I can't ride 70kmh! ;)

I am interested in what speeds her gait changes at ... she has such long legs I think she would probably do 20kph without breaking out of a trot... I have ordered a little video cam that I can set up on my bars, should be able to point it at her.... :)
I haven't done it in awhile, but I enjoy biking the hounds and the springer has definitely been helpful when they are lunging at squirrels. :-)
