Bender's new dance move...

I mentioned in my previous post that I was teaching Bender to go 'through' my legs. I had to get hands on with Bender as he was just dancing around and getting frustrated so I gave him a bit of physical guidance as well as luring with a treat. This is the result after a couple of sessions.

He gets it but I think my flailing arms are confusing him a little. He seems proud of himself that he learned a new trick though!

N got home from a swing at work and I showed her the new tricks. She was impressed.

Hello! Just thought I'd say hi after being charmed by your blog. =) One of my mommas has also thought me that trick, although she didn't even attempt to shape the behaviour and went straight to luring! Well I'm not complaining, more treats for me!
She has always thought greyhounds to be a very gorgeous breed. Thank goodness you can't find greyhounds where I'm from, or she wouldn't have adopted me!

hah hi Summer! You are cute. You aren't from Bali are you? You kind of look like a Bali dog.
No, nothing like that although I'm flattered! =D I'm from Malaysia. Then again, it's not too far from here so my great-great-great ancestor may have been! I might be more exotic then I thought after all.

Well Malaysian doggies seem exotic to us Australian folk! Actually, GAP in Western Australia adopted out a greyhound to someone in Malaysia. Her testimonial is at the top of the page, her name is Sandy.

Oh wow! That's really amazing! I guess it's not too far fetched after all. Maybe a few years down the road I'll be fortunate enough to adopt a greyhound of my own. Fingers crossed! But don't tell Summer, she can get jealous sometimes!

What was she saying? She better not be having ideas now. Just thought I'd drop by again to let you know I gave you an award! Hopefully you have some time to drop by and pick it up. =)

Bender looks like he's picking that up really fast! You know that he's going to do that trick sometime at the wrong moment just to embarrass you, though, right? I love how Barbie stands by supervising!

Yeah I'm sure he will hahah... as long as he doesn't injure me I will be happy! Next we are going to teach him to go under Barbie as she stays still. He does that anyway but not on command! ;)
Oh, I thought you were teaching Bender to weave around both your legs, which is what I gave up on trying to teach Frankie! Bender has got quite an audience there:) Frankie walks under Beryl too, looks so cute. It's great that everyone has fun:)

not sure Bender has the agility to do that!

ahah Bender seems only to walk under Barbie when he has his leash attached ... understandably, Barbie is not all too keen on it in that situation :)

and yeah the cats and Barbie all want in! They want to know how to get some of the yummies that Bender is getting!
Pretty cute trick. But it come out when you least expect it to happen.

I have seen agility people teach their dogs to weave that way. Too hard for me being short and having greyhounds!!

oh yeah, I am short! Barbie will have to duck down quite a bit to get under ;)
Go Bender! Who needs weave poles when you've got momma's legs?! :D

Lookin' good, Bender!! I've learnt this move too, even though I'm almost taller than my human - ha! ha!

The way we learnt it was actually for my human to throw a treat through her legs, starting with me in front - this gets me used to going through her legs quickly & confidently. Once I'm going it really well, she just pretends to throw the treat but keeps it in her hand - but by then, I know the hand gesture already so I will still go through. But when I can't find the treat, then I will come round the front and that's when she feeds me. This way I learn to go through and come round to the front without needing my human to lure me (which is really hard when you'be got a tall doggie like me and a short human like mine!) - once I'm going that well, my human gets me to come round to the front from both left & right. When I can do both sides, she then only gives me a treat when I've gone through the legs twice and gone come round front on BOTH sides (ie. once left, once right) - that's pretty much the figure 8 and the start of proper weaving. When I can do that really well, with her standing in place, several times - then she starts getting me to do it when she is walking. But I learnt all this slowly over several sessions.

Anyway, it looks like you're doing great but if you're having trouble, maybe you'd like to try it my way and see...

Hope this helps!

Slobbers,
Honey the Great Dane
