Day 4 of roll-over training...

I think she's made progress.

On the other hand, I got a nice big crate for her and when she saw it, the expression of disgust on her face was priceless! Bender proceeded to go lie in it, and when he left, the cats went in, but Barbie hasn't put more than her two front feet in. It was like she knew exactly what it was and didn't want a bar of it! I've put her bed in there and fed her in there. I will take it slowly with her. I have a feeling that Bender will be in there a lot of the time though!

Her roll over is so cute! Of the five greyhounds we've had over the years, three have adored the crate and two absolutely hated it. Blueberry, Lilac and Morgan all play musical chairs going in and out of the crate, but you'll never see Bunny in there!

Bender slept in there and has gone back in there this morning
Barbie is getting the rolling over idea good now:-) Frankie and Beryl both like Beryl's crate but not at the same time. Frankie eats his tea in there, Beryl sleeps in there at night and there's quite often one or the other in there during the day. But right now Frankie is asleep on their couch in the sunroom and Beryl is snuggled up on my bed, both warmer places than where I am in the lounge room:-) While Beryl is very happy to go to bed in her crate at night because she gets yummy treats I don't think she would appreciate being put in there at random times during the day, but I don't have to as when I go out and can't take the kids with me they are happy to go out into the tiny sunroom onto their big old couch. The sunroom has a dog door so I don't have to worry about anyone having an accident inside or busting in a crate!

I only want to crate Barbie overnight to stop the 'pee on the carpet in the middle of the night' incidents. She is fine if I leave her inside during the day for 9 or 10 hours but can't deal with the 8 hours I am asleep! I also want them both happy in crates for camping trips etc. I think it will be better for both of them. I used to tether Bender but if he is happy to nap in a crate then he's protected from nasty bitie things like sandflies and mozzies.

I think Barbie has previous crate baggage though - which is probably one of the reasons she didn't become a racer. I am going to try and build the desire to go into the crate with food stuffed kongs over the next, say, 5 days and we will see how we go.
Isn't that funny that she can hold on during the day but not at night? I would have thought it would be the other way around. Yes, crates are a wonderful thing to have when needed but they have to be a 'happy place' for the dogs, eh:-) Good luck

Yep, very weird. I recently came to the conclusion that she wasn't asking to go out in the morning either, just crying so I would get up! I think I will have to make Bender a 'cubby' so that he doesn't feel left out. Like Mr B's teepee (Two Pitties in the City)
