A day in the live of a volunteer - greyhound transport

As my followers in the USA can appreciate, sometimes dogs need to be transported long distances in order to hook them up with foster homes or adoptive families.

I turned out that this guy needed urgent transport on the weekend to a family who offered to foster, but they were 600 kilometres away. I volunteered to drive him half way there and the foster carers met me there.

It also just happened to be one of the hottest days of summer so far with a maximum of 41 degrees celsius. I had the air conditioning cranked so once he settled he didn't pant too much, he was hot when we first got into the car and pretty warm towards the end as the air con stopped working so efficiently.

He was an angel in the car, just lay down quietly in the back. He had just had his sterilisation procedure but he also had some stitches in his head due to an unfortunate incident with another dog.

He is doing well at his new foster home and he will make a lovely pet for someone!

I made a little video of the trip, enjoy :)

Looks familiar. I've put many a miles on the car transporting dogs here and there. Looks like a sweet boy. Glad he is settling in nicely with his new family.
I think it's great the way people with Greyhounds are so willing to help out when other dogs need fostering or transportation, it's a lovely community spirit. Glad he is doing well at his foster home.

Beautiful dog! Can I contribute to your fuel bill?

That is a lovely thought and sentiment, but I am fortunate enough to have a cushy job which pays me enough not to worry about occasional expenses in taking part in a dog-transfer like this one :) perhaps donate the money to a group local to you instead ? ;)

Tom is indeed a beautiful boy and hopefully he heals up quickly and well.
That looks like a fun road trip! Your video was great! We used to really enjoy transporting Greyhounds, but we haven't been able to do it in the last couple of years. The group that was near us went defunct and there are some ugly politics in this area. There used to be a lot of dogs that needed a ride down past our area, but we haven't been asked about any of them lately, so I don't know what the deal is. I do know that it's a great feeling to see them move on their way to a new life!
Well done. People often don't realise the importance of transporting dogs to their new owners. Tom looks like a lovely boy and I'm sure he enjoyed his first Christmas in a home :)
Thanks for volunteering and bringing these lovely dogs to their new homes!!!
Well done!!

We sometimes volunteer in transport trips for Akita Rescue and Welfare UK but haven't for a while!

I also volunteer at my local kennels, walking the dogs and feeding the cats, etc, it's great fun! I raise a lot of money and donations too! :)
