Is Barbie sitting just because she can? Beryl never does that. She'll stand for hours rather than sit (or lie down on anything less than a duvet!)

yeah, just because she can! it's a fairly recent development - she used to just stand and get wobbly legged unless we had something soft for her to lie on. Now she knows she can vary her position a bit. I think she is more comfortable sitting now cos I make her do it so much on our walks.
Out of all mine, only Katie and Seven would sit occasionally because they chose to. Katie was comfortable and just liked it. Seven only does it when she is freezing cold. :-)

I think it does depend on their biomechanics a lot. Barbie's front legs are a little bit too long relative to her back so when she is sitting she sometimes has her front legs angled out a bit - which requires all her shoulder strength to hold them in place. If she tries to sit on the tiles her front legs tend to slide out gradually. On the sand though, or on the carpet, she is pretty comfortable.

I had to teach her to do sits/downs on rough 'chip n seal' ashphalt in a car park without treats for her to pass her Canine Good Citizen, so I think compared to that, anywhere else is comfy to sit :)
That's a beautiful shot of her! She looks so regal!

there is a reason why the staff at the boarding kennel call her 'Princess' ;)
I agree - just a beautiful pose.

Love and licks, Winnie
I sit because I can, if Mum asks me I pretend I've no idea what she wants. Hehe! Deccy x

haha Deccy, we know you are just holding out for more treats!
She must have been a queen in her former life.
She looks like maybe she's waiting for something to chase. :-)

yeh that is probably right - she can spring up from a sitting start almost as well as a standing start... and she is staring at the gate of the dog park. She is pretty well restrained these days though - if I tell her to wait before she goes sprinting up to the new dogs in the park, she will. I used to have to hang on to her when people and dogs were coming in the gate.
How much bribery was involved ;)

Stop on by for a visit

cute :)
Arrow first started sitting when he was tired/scared/unwell/injured, but he still did it. So then we put a command with it and treats (of course), once he learned he would be rewarded for sitting, he would do it ALL the time just coz he thought he was clever. lol

Omo loves sitting. Fabian won't. He's a stander and rests by using his head on a lap, belly, or cat.
I am not the most patient sitter so seeing you look so stately and grand gives me a desire to work on my sitting. You are quite beautiful.

Bert
