You can apply to your local government area to have more but that involves them inspecting your property and determining via some mysterious process whether or not you can have another one.

Cats are fairly unregulated, but one by one local governments are introducing cat control laws. I welcome these though because, well, if cats don't trespass into my garden and stir up my animals, I am much happier!jethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07306733879105775659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-851973273038232669.post-65187831378813485732010-07-21T20:18:45.142+08:002010-07-21T20:18:45.142+08:00Luckily greyhounds are mentioned on any breed spec...Luckily greyhounds are mentioned on any breed specific laws in the USA, but breed specific laws do raise their ugly heads periodically. Also laws that limit the number of animals you can have. Dog people need to pay attention to this stuff because it can happen before you know it. They are considered a 'restricted breed' here and are compulsorily sterilised and you cannot import them. I think they are dying out and the only people who own them are not the desirable type of dog owner which hurts the breed even more.

Greyhounds on the other hand are abundant (but not so many living as pets) because the government makes a lot of money out of greyhound racing. Our largest betting agency is government owned! Large numbers are still destroyed once they are no good for the track.

The media here loves a good breed-based beat up! Now that there are no pitties left, it's usually mastiffs or GSDs or staffordshire bull terriers being scapegoated. There was an unfortunate incident where someone jumped into the backyard (tresspassing) of a house with a family of mastiffs, and there were puppies there too. That person got a bad mauling. The dogs were destroyed, and the media were baying for mastiffs to be banned! :P

Australia, the dog hating country!jethttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07306733879105775659noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-851973273038232669.post-74327792978442841272010-07-21T12:12:19.317+08:002010-07-21T12:12:19.317+08:00I couldn't believe this when you mentioned it ...I couldn't believe this when you mentioned it before in your post. The ironic thing is that having greyhounds and pitbulls muzzled in public is just reinforcing the hysteria and typecasting. I'm glad these laws haven't made their way here. Two Pitties in the Cityhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04694420319336839807noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-851973273038232669.post-49399799773969945752010-07-21T11:43:26.500+08:002010-07-21T11:43:26.500+08:00Good heaven!
